Hotel Suggestions Munich Near Hbf Station

Looking for your hotel/airbnb suggestions within walking distance of the Hbf station and the old town zone. Only staying 3 nights in Munich in June 2026 but need to be within walking distance (10-15 mins max). Thank you!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Metropol on Mittererstrasse, easy 5 minute or less walk to the Hbf. The room was enormous, modern style, very clean and quiet, and the breakfast buffet far surpassed any I've ever encountered in Europe.

Given all the construction at the Hbh, I would suggest looking for something closer to the Marienplatz sbahn station.

I don’t know what walking distances for you is but I thought Motel One Sendlinger Tor was fine. It’s about a 1.1km walk or 15 min from hotel to train station.

Any particular reason why you need to be within walking distance of Munich Bahnhof?
Old town I can see why, but the Bahnhof is easily reached by S or U Bahn even if you're
not close to it. There are plenty of hotels around there, but as noted, the construction
going on now (not sure if it will be done next June) makes getting around that area
more difficult.

The hotels around Hbf lean more towards the 3* variety, while nicer hotels (4-5*) are
around Marienplatz.

If you would specify a budget and any must-haves, you might get some more specific
recommendations.

The area in Munich near Hbf is not my favorite area as there isn't much really to see around there and I find has been getting more and more sketchy especially after dark.
But the metro is very good around Munich so there is no need to be within walking distance. Just jump the metro and you can be anywhere is the city quickly.

Hahaha, the current planned completion date is 2037. Please note that the construction of the new station building and the redesign of the station square are only a minor aspect. The most important thing is the construction of the underground S-Bahn, and that is where all kinds of difficulties arise. It was expected that a lot of WW2 bombs and many undocumented supply lines would be encountered, but not the repeated water intrusions that keep delaying the work.

Personally, I would also prefer to look for a hotel in the city center (near Marienplatz or Rosenheimer Platz) or, if it doesn't have to be right in the center, at Ostbahnhof. There is plenty of choice in all price ranges at all three locations.

I have twice stayed at the Excelsior by Geisel. It is very nice and just around the corner from the main train station. The only advice I would give is to walk at the crosswalks and lights from the station, don’t try any shortcuts or the underground which is very confusing. There is also a nice restaurant and bar in the hotel. It is in walking distance to the old town.

Are you coming into town on a train to the main station, or are you coming from the airport? If the later, the same S-Bahn that comes from the airport stops at Marienplatz, just a couple of stops before (S8) or a couple of stops after (S1) the Hbf. Everything you probably want to see is around Marienplatz, so I'd just stay there.

And, as mentioned above, there's a Motel One at Sendlinger Tor as well as a couple more hotels that are probably less expensive than hotels near Marienplatz. if coming from the airport, you can change to an U-Bahn at Marienplatz and go to Sendlinger Tor using the same ticket and fare as to the Hbf.

Also, the same S-Bahns from the airport stop at Rosenheimerplatz and Ostbahnhof, near hotels.
