We plan to travel to Germany at the conclusion of our RS Poland tour in June. Looking for centrally located, clean, 3+ star accommodations. Any suggestions?
My wife and I stayed at the Melia in Berlin on Friedrichstrasse a few summers ago It's a block or so north of the S bahn and U bahn station (one stop from the main station) and within easy walking distance of the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderpkatz, Museum Island, etc being smack in the middle of the city (the Mitte). It is a 4 star hotel though and I did read that you were looking at 3 star. I can only share this one time experience but we did really enjoy our stay on the 3rd floor with a river view and we especially liked the central location of the hotel.
I posted/recommended the Melia a while back to another poster who liked the Melia but thought they might prefer a hotel one stop east in the Hachescher Markt area.
Good luck and happy researching!
We have stayed several times at the Hotel Zoe (Amano Group) near the Hackescher Markt (and its S Bahn station). It is very near to Museum Island. Ask for a room away from the street since there are trolleys outside. There are lots of similar priced places around there. I usually begin with Booking.com to check relative prices and locations. (Hint - pick a Hotel and when you go to the Booking site for that hotel and then click on "show on map" it will show the prices of all of the hotels on that area of the map.)
Dresden:
Hotel Martha is a very good 3star hotel. https://hotel-martha.de/
Location is in the charming new town (Baroque district), across the river from the old town with the major sights (a 10 min walk over Augustus bridge.) Very close to railway station Dresden-Neustadt, but in a relatively quiet location.
You may also want to have a look at 4star hotels in Dresden as the rates are lower than in other popular tourist cities. For very central location try Hotel Steigenberger de Saxe e.g.
A few thoughts....
In Berlin I was very pleased with my stay at Pension Peters and would definitely stay there again - https://www.pension-peters-berlin.de/en . The room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the Pension was in a nice location, close to Bahnhof Zoo and Savignyplatz S-Bahn station.
In Dresden I stayed at the intercity Hotel which is in a great location right across the street from the main rail stationd (doesn't get any more convenient than that!) - https://www.intercityhotel.com/en/hotels/all-hotels/germany/dresden/intercityhotel-dresden . The room was modern and clean and I found the staff very helpful. There's also a Tram stop right in front of the hotel, and I vaguely recall that the hotel provided a Tram pass with the room. There's also a large pedestrian mall within easy walking distance from the hotel and there are lots of restaurants and shops there - https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-shopping-street-pedestrian-area-prager-strasse-fountain-people-dresden-123131637.html .
In Dresden I stayed at the Hofgartnerhaus .... it is right next to the Albertinum so all of the old town is on your doorstep. Rooms are simple but spotless and with ensuite. There is a small kitchen shared by guests on each floor with fridge, microwave, kettle and all utensils. It has a large terrace. I first spotted it on booking.com but ended up booking directly with the hotel/guest house.
Agrotz34,
I replied to your previous post recommending Wroclaw, Dresden, and Berlin. You will enjoy Poland, I was last there August 2019, and previously visited twice in the 1990's. If you have time in Gdansk, the WW2 and Solidarity museums are excellent. I also enjoy history and museums.
I was in Dresden/Leipzig/Berlin in January 2020, my last European trip before covid.
In Dresden I stayed four nights at the Hyperion Hotel, it is centrally located in the historic section. I would call it a 4+ star hotel. I stayed in an executive room, that gave me access to the business lounge for drinks and snacks through out the day, and also had breakfast in the rate, that was good and extensive. I loved Dresden and was busy touring the VW electric auto factory, multiple museums, opera house, etc.
In Berlin I stayed five nights at Hotel Q off of Savginy Platz, in Charlottenburg/West Berlin. I like the neighborhood around Savginy for the local coffee shops and restaurants. The hotel was 4 star, reasonable, very friendly, and welcoming. I have visited Berlin over five times since the 1990's and have stayed in both East and West Berlin. East Berlin might be more central to museums. I recommend the Berlin Welcome Card, it is a transportation pass for getting around Berlin, I bought it at the tourist center in the train station. I did multiple walking tours, in addition to visiting various museums. The Berlin Welcome Card entitles you to discounts at museums and walking tours. I was checked twice by transit police for my ticket while getting around Berlin.
Which side of Berlin do you fancy? There is a big difference in vibe between east and west.
Also, what facilities do you need?
