Looking for some wonderful suggestions on where to stay in Stuttgart and best way to travel south for a few days with car or train and then leaving out of Munich. Like to get off the beaten track, so thinking best is to have a car? Ideas on what towns to visit, spent time in Munich already.
Also would love to stay/ visit some medieval, quaint villages on the way....
We like the City Hotel in Stuttgart. It is a basic hotel with a good breakfast. It is walking distance to city center but still outside pedestrian zone with parking directly in front.
If you want to visit towns, then public transportation will get you to them - tourist centers or less traveled places by Americans. We lived in Germany and traveled by car. It was great but a hassle when visiting towns. Now that we are returning, we like trains to get us to them with a minimum fuss.
If you want to see the countryside by car, I liked staying in the village of Glottertal many years ago. It is in the beautiful rolling countryside of the southern Black Forest region.
The Schwabian Alps (Schwäbische Alb) region is also very popular. Bad Urach is often mentioned as the place to stay.
You might get a better response if you describe what types of places you want to see. Castles, baroque churches, mountains, villages, historic towns or??
Thank you Gary really appreciate your advice.
Monica, Tübingen is a pretty cool little University town. And we liked the Schwarzwald (regardless of what Rick says)
BTW I live by Magic Sands....
Thank you Dolfinn, what do you think about the Romantic road, worth the drive
I haven't actually driven the Romantic Road. I've driven from Stuttgart to Füssen and a week in the Schwarzwald. But southern Germany seems to be full of charming little towns with or without "tourist attractions". And we just love the countryside....
