HOTEL ST. PAUL - Website Issues

We are going to Germany in the fall (during Oktoberfest) and I've been trying to access HOTEL ST. PAUL in Munich (https://www.hotel-stpaul.de/), which is one of the hotels Rick Steves recommends highly. Unfortunately, every time I go to their website I get nowhere. I get the spinning wheel of "Loading. We are looking for the best prices for you" and then it just times out. I've been trying now and then for at least two weeks. I sent them an email earlier today, but have not received a response. Anyone have any success with this hotel and if so, tips on how to connect with them? Thank you in advance.

Yep, I just tried it now in two different browsers. I also tried using the English translated site and then the German site, and you're right - it's not doing anything.

So you have a couple of choices - one is to find something else and try and book that.

The other is to call the hotel. Depending on your cell phone provider, it's should only be a couple of dollars to call if you don't talk too long. Their phone number is listed on the website - just remember to add the country code. Also don't forget to allow for the time change when you call.

One other thing - if you just sent the email earlier today, they may not have had a chance to read it yet. Our "early" is their mid-afternoon, which is one of the busiest times for a hotel. You might want to wait till early Friday morning to call. Or not - it certainly won't hurt anything to call and you may get an answer sooner.

Try booking.com just to see if you can access it through booking or another third party site.

I just tried for a room over my anniversary in late summer and it just spun for 5 minutes when I gave up. call or email or booking dot com seem to be the choices. Nice webpage though...

OK understand the problem now. I can't book a room either. Tried to call here from Munich and after ringing several times I am thrown off the line. I would just forget about it.

Demand and rates for Munich hotels are very high during Oktoberfest. I'd book a room in a different hotel immediately. It's pretty unlikely a place highly recommended by Rick still has vacancies for the period you need.

I just got an emailed reply, and the hotel closed on 12/2/2022, citing new challenges (despite surviving the pandemic). The hotel building will become residential apartments. Thank you everyone who replied! We have many more options lined up and will be booking something this weekend.

would have been nice if they had either pulled their webpage or at least put a notice on it...

Try Augsburg. Nice city on the Romantic Road, direct transport into Munich by train without the crazy competition for rooms and high O'fest prices. Landshut is a second option - smaller, very attractive with easy transport into Munich - for escaping the crowds for at least some of your time in the area.

Nigel, I wholeheartedly agree - I don't understand why businesses don't follow through. I'm going to notify Google that it's closed - they'll check with the business and then label it so at least people searching for it will see that.

Just an FYI, I did notify Google and about 90 minutes later, I got a message saying they had confirmed that. The Google site now shows it as permanently closed so hopefully that might help other travelers.

Thank you all for the investigative information regarding Hotel St. Paul in Munich. I've notified our guidebook editors about the hotel closure so that our guidebooks can be updated accordingly.

It might be useful for someone to put a note about the closure of the hotel on trip advisor. On the back of this thread I have just done that for a closed hotel in my own town, and some time ago did that after the fire at the Nordland Store on Marrowstone Island, WA- which will be updated if and when the store reopens.

steven

the website, as I said upthread, is indeed still active, part of the issue.

the problem is with the contact and booking engine. Did you try to make an actual booking?

I have now put a note on trip advisor about the closure. I had hoped someone up thread would do so.
