Hotel Recommendations in Bacharach

I will be in the Middle Rhine Valley the last weekend in August for two nights and would like a few hotel suggestions. Very interested in the Hotel am Markt in Bacharach - has anyone stayed there recently? TIA!

In 1997, I had dinner in the Hotel am Markt Bacharach, but didn't stay there. I remember having fine dinner even if it was 28 years ago. The owner stopped at my table to say hi.

Wherever you stay in Bacharach, it's worth visiting the youth hostel in town. It's housed in Stahleck Castle, an authentic 12th century castle. I'm sure they'd let you look around. The courtyard has stunning views of the Rhine River.

It wasn’t recently, but I’ll reply as you haven’t had a lot of other suggestions. We were quite happy with our stay at the Hotel Altkölnischer Hof. The room was comfortable and we enjoyed the balcony. There is an attractive restaurant where we had a nice dinner one night. Breakfast was very good as well. It is located in the middle of town and appears to have good reviews currently on booking dot com. Safe travels.

Bacharach has the Rhine's most attractive half-timbered buildings. As a base town for cruising and for touring the region, it is sometimes a weaker choice than other towns. Are you arriving there from FRA - or heading to FRA after your stay? Do you plan to visit Burg Eltz? Rheinfels Castle? Cologne? Marksburg Castle? Rüdesheim? Cochem or Trier? It's possible that another town might work better, depending on your plans.

I have stayed in nearly all the towns there, most often in St Goar and Boppard, both of which offer rooms with Rhine River views and are places where you can start or end a cruise through the most scenic part of the Rhine. Both also have ferry crossings as well. Rheinfels Castle (ruins) is right in town [Boppard][1] is especially good for restaurant and lodging choices (good variety) and the chairlift ride there is tops. Boppard is also unique as it offers free transportation in the area to all guests with the VRM Guest Ticket.

In St Goar: Check out the Rheinhotel St Goar and the Hotel Rheinfels, neighbor hotels right near the KD boat dock and ferry crossing, with views like this. We enjoyed our double-with-balcony room at the Rheinhotel on our most recent visit.

In Boppard: Several hotels and restaurants lie on the waterfront promenade. The Hotel Bellevue gets good marks and has fans on this forum. It also has A/C, which isn't all that common in these towns.

In Bacharach, views of the vineyards and hillsides are possible from some hotels, but the whole town is set back from the river behind the railway el that passes through town, an enemy to rooms with a river view, and the source of a fair amount of noise; be sure to check the reviews on Bacharach hotels for noise problems.
