hotel recommendations for Wurzburg and Nuremburg

We like function over form.

In Nürnburg we have stayed at the Ibis Hauptbahnhof and Motel One Hauptbahnhof, both near the train station and handy to city center and the Christmas Market. Both are chains, where you have a choice to eat breakfast there or find it elsewhere. We find breakfast at the hotel very handy. Rooms are small.

In Würzburg we stay at one of two family owned and operated hotels: the St. Josef or the Barbarossa. Both are walking distance to the train station and the Christmas Market. Folks that run each of these are very nice. The Barbarossa is a little closer to the city center but the rooms are smaller. St. Josef has a bit better breakfast to my taste.

In Nueremberg, I stayed at the Hotel Garni Probst, and a friend later stayed at the Hotel Keiml next door (both recommended by Rick Steves in his Germany book). These are small pensions, and we both had good experiences and would stay there again. They are just inside the walls, so I don't know about location relative to Christmas markets, but they were very convenient for everything else.
