We will have been in a cruise which sailed from Kiel and need to take early flight back so thinking we need to stay beat/ at Hamburg airport for that last night.
Would like to go into city the last night ... think it best that there be a restaurant at hotel...

Radisson Blue is directly in front of the terminals. S-Bahn S1 will bring you to main station and back to explore the city for an evening. Around the airport it is not very lively.
If you just want to drop into a hotel for the night the Courtyard (former Kocks Hotel) can be an idea. Very cheap solution is Motel One (budget hotel w/o shuttle).
Tip: Bus Kielius transfers between Kiel and Hamburg airport.
