Hotel recommendations for Dresden

I will be in Dresden for 2-3 nights in April, and I'm looking for a hotel that is best location for the sights. I haven't familiarized myself much with the city yet, but my mother is in her 80s, so minimizing walking is ideal.

I am interested in 3 star hotels, but am willing to consider 4 star if the location is much better.

Thanks for any input you can provide!

We spent several nights in Dresden last March and stayed at the InterCity Hotel just outside of the train station. Its not in the heart of it all but it was a great hotel, very comfortable and clean. It was a big help for us being by the station since we have a little one and were catching a train to Munich. There were several restaurants, McDonald's, etc around the hotel and a few places inside the station. There was also a grocery and drugstore on the other side of the station. We rode the street cars around town and one stopped just a few feet away from the door. We took it down to the main square and along the river. The hotel even gave us transportation tickets when we checked in so we never had to buy them.

Leslie,

I've also been looking at hotels in Dresden for a possible trip later this year. One that I'm considering is Hotel Kipping, which is just 100 metres or so from the main station. Have a look at the website to see if that might work for you.

We stayed here:
"DRESDEN
Ibis Hotel Dresden
Prager Strabe 5, Dresden, 01169
+49-351-4856-2000
reservierung@ibis-dresden.de"

There are 3 Ibis hotels in a row on the large pedestrian street as you walk from the train station to the city centre. We were very happy with the hotel and it was only a short walk to the city centre.
We paid 82 Euros/night.
