Hotel near Heidelburg train station

There's an Ibis almost directly attached to the train station. But this isn't the area of Heidelberg where I'd recommend staying. There's nothing in that area except modern office buildings and housing blocks, and the Altstadt (presumably the reason for your visit) is almost too far away to walk.

How old are the children, why are you stopping in Heidelberg, what do you consider "within walking distance", how much do you plan to spend for a hotel? I assume you will not have a car so you have luggage to contend with...
