Hotel Location in Heidelberg

We have been thinking of visiting Heidelberg by train next year. I noticed that the town is quite spread out, as are the hotel locations. Google Maps says that it is 50 minutes walk from the station to the castle. Does anyone have a favorite area in which to search for a hotel? We mainly want to be handy to restaurants and the pedestrian zone. Thanks, Gary

We have stayed at the Hotel Anlage several times over the years, mostly as they have a few parking spots (must reserve the parking and there is a charge). It is an easy walk to the pedestrian zone, old bridge, castle (uphill or Bergbahn) etc. It is about 2 kilometers from the Bahnhof. Not sure of the public transport (Bus) route to get there. www.hotel-anlage.de/

We stayed at the Hotel Holländer Hof, which looks out on the old bridge in the heart of the tourist area. Walked everywhere except the train station (cabbed each way).

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check them out. Gary

Another vote for Hotel Holländer Hof. Although it's a bit of a walk, I enjoyed walking from the train station to the hotel. (We are a 40 something couple & each had a small rolling suitcase)

If you are traveling on a budget and are fine with a no-frills room, consider the Dubliner Irish pub. It's right on the Hauptstrasse, very close to the castle and everything else and they have a few inexpensive rooms that they rent out for less than 100 euro which is cheap for that location. They have a suite on the top floor with a small balcony for just under 100 euros. Niall, the owner is a fantastic guy (yes, he's from Dublin).
