Has anyone had recent first hand experience with the Hotel Kastanienhof in the Prenzlauer Berg area of Berlin?
I'd appreciate you comments.
Thanks.

I have not stayed there although I've walked through the area, and it's busy but nice. If you don't get a response here, you might want to check Trip Advisor and Google. I did a quick search and Google reviews were generally positive with some caveats that it's not very modern (which could go both ways). Trip Advisor reviews were also positive for the most part.
We stayed there in May 2022 for 5 nights. It was a perfect location because the M1 Tram stops RIGHT out front! There's also an excellent late-night doner spot on the corner and a little down the block a small party store with the most friendly of owners.
The hotel was simple, clean, spacious enough, and the people were friendly. The street noise, and the noise of the keyless door buzzer was a problem for me the first night but I popped in some ear plugs and was fine. My husband snored through it all. It was a worthwhile trade for the view from our window down the street and right out into a blooming chestnut tree (featured on the hotel logo).
Breakfast was in a dedicated room with a generous spread that we've come to expect from our travels in Germany.
I would absolutely stay there again. Especially since Prenzlauerberg is one of the coolest neighborhoods. The Kulturbrauerei has a food festival on Sundays, the humble but historically important Zionkirche, the quirky hipster park, and Konnopke's Imbiss are all close by. Even Mauer Park and the large section of the wall (with the Nord ghost station) are all just a hop away because of that M1 Tram stop.
