hotel in old town Dusseldorf for night before river cruise

Sorry, but it looks like none of us have stayed in the old town itself. I can recommend the Steigenberger Parkhotel from my business travel days. It my be close enough to the old town to meet your needs. I have never had a bad stay at a Steigenberger property.

Steigenberger Hotel is often expensive. A good hotel, too. I found a good rate via secretescapes, but got a small and a little bit dark room.

I think this in a good walking distance, too, Offers often good rates. I think, it‘s a little bit older building, but the room was ok.

Yes. Last November/December my wife and I stayed at Hotel Orangerie at Bäckergasse 1.
I would describe this hotel as on the edge of the old town and only about a block and a half from the Rhine River. It was an easy walk to everything in the old town, Düsseldorf. It is not the cheapest, but it is not too expensive either. The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. When we left after our fifth night there, our taxi picked us up before the breakfast buffet opened. But the staff gave us packed sandwiches and coffee to go without us even asking! They helped us load our many bags into the taxi as well. I will always stay here when I go to Düsseldorf. By the way, Düsseldorf is a highly underrated city in Germany and a great place to go shopping and enjoy Christmas markets.

We will be staying at the Ruby Luna in a couple days, not in the heart of old town, but close. It is now part of the IHG hotel group (Holiday Inn), so we will see. I can drop a line after our stay.

I found Düsseldorf very walkable, and went on foot to the old town several times from my hotel.

I stayed at the Derag Livinghotel De Medici in 2017. It's what Rick would call "A Worthwhile Splurge". It's a gut renovation of an old mansion. I loved my small single, which still had a separate living area, desk, two flat-screens, and a massive new bathroom. The location, near both the old town and museums, was perfect. The subway was two or three blocks away. The optional breakfast was expensive, but was palatial and included chilled Sekt! I think every room is different.

Note that the same company runs a similarly named hotel in town which is cheaper and much more poorly reviewed on TA.

Edit: Because I was on the top floor, I noticed that only one of two elevators went all the way to the top.

The hotel mentioned by Tim, is only a couple of blocks from the water front and the KD dock, if that is your cruise company.

Thanks for the suggestions...In researching hotels in Dusseldorf, I'm seeing the term "attached bathroom" for many. Private bath is mandatory....Anyone have any experience with this?

Ruby, Steigenberger and Leonardo I had an own bathroom.
