My mom and I are going on the Best of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland tour in October and are going to Hamburg to meet my dad and visit some of their friends after the tour. We won't be staying with them at their house and the hotel they suggested is already booked for the days we want to stay. My mom is waiting to her back from them on other suggestions but I thought I would ask here too. They live in Bergedorf, but said Hamburg would be close. Anyone have any suggestions to stay in either place? Thanks!
In Hamburg I had a great stay at this place:

It's in the newly redevolped historic Hafen district, and very close to the city's most popular attraction Minitur Wonderland.
Hi,
Yes, Bergedorf isn't that far from Hamburg Hbf. You can take the S-Bahn from Bergedorf direct to Hamburg Hbf. Numerous hotels of different price ranges (two to four star) are located across from Hamburg Hbf when you take the Kirchenallee exit. Hotel Fürst Bismarck and the more pricey Europäischer Hof but it's very good.
The best areas to stay in Hamburg would be either Speicherstadt (HafenCity) or around the Binnenalster.
I found Hotel Baseler Hof a very nice hotel in a great location, but not the cheapest hotel in the city either.
Sorry, we don't have any favorites to add.
Out of my own experience I can recommend this one: http://www.heikotel.de/hotels/hotel-am-stadtpark/home.html
Neither is it one of the really expensive places, nor a cheap one. So it was just about right for our needs (me+girlfriend). We were happy with the location, too.
Not sure what price range you guys are looking for. In general, booking.com is always a good place to start looking.
And yes, Bergedorf is not too far aways (about 30 minutes). Still, I would definitely prefer staying in hamburg since it's probably the best/most beautiful german city (at least that's more or less the public opinion nowadays) and this way you can experience it best. I'm sure you'll love it. :)
