Hotel in Berlin - Arcotel John F

Has anyone stayed at Arcotel John F in Berlin? It's in mitte, closer to the museums side.

I'm looking for a hotel that's easily walkable to most tourist sights. We're in Berlin for 4 nights and I wanted to make the best use of our time.

I'm wondering why Prenzlauer berg is so well recommended by Rick, as you'll have to use public transport back and forth.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Berlin ist ja so gross! If you just have a few things on your list like museums, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Mitte works for walking. But Berlin is spread out and to see other sites, you need to use the S&U Bahns. I've never been to Prenzlauer Berg. Seems to be a fairly gentrified area that Rick likes. I prefer Savignyplatz myself.

We stayed in Mitte near the Brandenberg Gate and walked everywhere we wanted to go in Berlin including the museums. There is so much history to take in, memorials too. As you walk you will see plaques detailing what happened in that location. Walking in Mitte worked very well for us to the various sites, museums. I wouldn't want to be farther out. One day we also took a train to Potsdam.

@Suki, where did you stay? The one I found is closer to the museums. But it's air conditioned, and seems to be a good price. I just wish it was more central like the Westin which is a bit too expensive for us.

I stayed in the Arcotel's other property, the Velvet, also in Mitte. Great location, free bagels and coffee for breakfast, apples in your room to take as a snack. I liked it just fine.
Prenzlauer Berg is nice because it's cheaper and the food options are much better, but Berlin really isn't that expensive anyways, so you're fine in Mitte.

I think I'll go with Arcotel John f. I mapped out everything on google maps and everything with the exception of the wall memorial is within a 30 min walk.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions.

Hi,

You'll do just fine staying in Mitte, the area having certain advantages. I like Mitte but stay in Charlottenburg at Savignyplatz but not at the place RS recommends, which is located near the corner of Kantstrasse and Savignyplatz.

I stayed at a hotel in Prenzlauer Berg when I was on a Rick Steves tour, Berlin, Prague & Vienna. It is a family run hotel and quite accommodating to our needs and an extensive breakfast. I really enjoyed my stay there in this neighborhood. Good restaurants nearby within walking distance and tram lines and the S- and U- bahn lines as well.
One of the other posters is correct, Berlin is very spread out. It would be helpful to know what things you want to do while you are there. That will help with finding a hotel.
