Hello there
Anyone have a good suggestion for a 3 night stay in Munich for Oktoberfest? We do not mind taking a nearby subway to Oktoberfest to save some money instead of being in city center or near fairgrounds.
But would like a recommendation for a safe area to stay.
Thanks for your help

I can't give you any recommendations. I can only advise you to get on this rapidly! In early this year we found an airfare we really liked and put together a trip for September into October for into Munich and out of Prague. And only after we purchased did it hit me we would now be in Munich during Oktoberfest! I had to work very hard to find lodging available for those Munich nights, and that was in January. But in terms of safety, we've heard nothing to worry about. We are a mid-60s couple who walk everywhere (unless distances are too great, and then it's public transit)
We always stay at one of the Motel One locations. Several have good access to U and S Bahn lines convenient for the fest. Check out the Ost, Sendlinger Tor, and Deutsches Museum locations. If they show no rooms online be then call them directly as last year they didn’t release all rooms for online reservation.

Outside Munich if local hotels are booked you might consider the S8 to stay in Herrsching on the Ammersee about a 1 hour trip from the Theresienwiese (Oktoberfest grounds) and also visit the Kloster Andechs. The city of Augsburg is also about a 1 hour S-Bahn or Regional Bahn trip too as an alternate city to stay and visit.
We rarely stay in hotels but we did like this place. Very clean, comfy bed, fantastic shower, nice breakfast spread, and other restaurants close by. About a ten minute walk to the station. Holzkirchen is a suburb with little character but very safe . Even here, on the outskirts, prices increase somewhat during Oktoberfest.
Thanks for your replies.
