hotel for long layover: Munich Hilton or Hotel am Viktualienmarkt

Hi - my family of 4 (2 teenage daughters) has an overnight 22 hour layover in Munich for 1/5/26 and we have rooms booked at both the Munich Hilton and Hotel am Viktualienmarkt. Which one may be better to stay out given that we will be coming from the airport. It's the kids first time in Germany and we are hoping to do some easy sightseeing before returning to the US. It's also the Feast of Epiphany so also not sure what might be open that day. Any guidance greatly appreciated!

We stayed at the Hilton for one night before moving to a more central hotel for our RS tour. It was definitely a conference business hotel and the train station was right there.

But the other hotel would be more central and a more walkable area for site seeing.

Munich Hilton has an entrance directly from the S line and will be fairly easy to get to from the airport. Breakfast is amazing, but quite expensive. I haven't stayed at the other, but it won't involve needing to take much public transport once you arrive as it is a bit more central.

My current "go to" hotel is not in central Munich but is located at the S1 stop at Neufahrn. Hotel Gastoff Maisberger has large rooms, reasonable prices and is just 10 minutes from the airport making connections to the airport quite easy.

Like Carol said, the Maisberger has very nice rooms, and very convenient to the airport, but a 20+ minute ride into the center of town. Freising is a small town, with not much at all to see, in our opinion. The Hotel Am Markt is right at the Victualenmarkt and a few blocks from the Marienplatz. As first time visitors for a short stay, that's really where they want to do some sight-seeing. However, if your flight out of Munich is very early, it may be hard to get from the Victualenmarkt up to the airport early enough. The Maisberger would solve that problem. If you do that, you could have a very nice meal at the Maisberger that evening, after sightseeing the Marienplatz area.
