I was watching a youtube video last night that showed a sandwich that I would love to find. According to the info he was in Dusseldorf but we will be in Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Munich. It was in the market area of the city, was a huge cheese wheel cut in half and each half was placed under a heater that melted the cheese. They then scrapped the cheese off onto a piece a bread and made it into a sandwhich. Does anyone know if the cities we will be in have something like that and where we might find it?
This is raclette. A half wheel of cheese is placed under a heater, and when it is melted, it is scraped off onto a slice of bread. Usually served with some pickles. People make this at home too, but with little pans, that they put potatoes, and a slice of this particular raclette cheese, and then it goes under a grill.
This is a Swiss dish.
In Frankfurt, unless you are at a Swiss restaurant, the only place I know that does this at outside of the Klein Markt Halle on Saturdays.

Thank you Jo! We will have to see if we can find it. I know my 2 1/2 year old daughter would love it!!
Just so you know, it is rather smelly cheese. You will smell it if you get near it at the Klein Markt Halle. Very tasty though.
