We will be in Frankfurt for three days next week. We'd like to take a Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour, but we are unsure which company to book with. I have found several of these bus tours online, at varying prices. Can anyone recommend which company to choose? We want lots of commentary and information, not just a bus ride. Thanks.
I have been to Frankfurt several times and most of the places worth seeing are not in Frankfurt, but nearby.
Not sure that I would spend any money sightseeing in Frankfurt.
Wow, geovagrith, that is a pretty damning review of a city. What did you see while you were in Frankfurt to think it wasn't worth spending money on sightseeing here?
None of the hoho buses are worth spending money on. Read their reviews on Trip Advisor or in the Rick Steves Germany book.
While in Frankfurt about the only real interesting part of the city was across the river in Sachsenhausen.
Wiesbaden was interesting, as was Heidelberg and the Rhine Valley north of Frankfurt.
The city of Frankfurt was bombed out by the allies in WWII and there is little in the city of major historical interest, except a small Roman encampment just outside the city, but even that is not much.
We have lots of churches that are original, (Kaiserdom, Alte Nikolai, Teutonic Order of Knights, 3 König) most of city hall is original, all the neighborhoods outside of the Wallanlage (late 1800-beginning 1900) are original, we have guard 6 guard towers built between 1428-1455, part of our city wall built in 1150, that was also the Jewish Ghetto Wall, and the whole train station area is full of beautiful turn of the century buildings. One of our neighborhoods - Höchst - is part of the Half-timbered Route that runs through Germany.
We have one of the most moving Jewish Holocaust Memorials in Germany. That might just be my personal opinion though.
Most people enjoy the many Farmers markets as well as the Klein Markt Halle.
