How closed is closed for holidays in Germany? Just found out the country will be celebrating Ascension Day while we're there. Will restaurants be open, but not museums, or vice versa? And are rural areas more closed than cities?
Gastronomy is often open. Museums are mostly open. The general rule on holidays like this is that if it is open on Sundays, it can also be open on holidays at the discretion of the employer. Grocery stores and such would be closed except in train stations or airports.
Stores are closed on holidays. Museums will close on some big holidays like New Years or Christmas, but others stay open. Mondays are days when museums close. Tourist attractions will be open as well as restuarants and cafes. Sort of like a Sunday. No shopping but you can do everything else. It is also Fathers Day, so the men will go out to the woods with wagons and beer to celebrate.
Thank you both for the helpful responses.
