Hofbrauhaus for dinner tonight or just good for beer?

Basically that's it!

Beer, then just add meat....that's all you need.

Janet: considering the numbers of people they are serving, the food isn't that bad, not high cuisine but you know that going in.

It's not the best food in town, but definitely servicable, and the Schweinsehaxe is pretty good. If you're there anyway, why not eat the food?

We ate there in December and loved the food. It's meat & potatoes but really good! I had wienerschnitzel, my husband had schweinehaxen. Yum! Ready to go back.

Hofbrauhaus is really only for tourists. Hopefully you'll have a nice time, but sometimes you'll get a hateful or rude waiter - or one that just is NOT going to serve you because he just doesn't want to - I've been there many times and it just keeps getting worse every time I take visitors.

If you just absolutely want to see the Hofbrauhaus then definitely go and see it. If you want a quality Biergarten experience then try one of the other higher quality establishments.

If I was looking for dinner, I would try the Weisses Brauhaus at Tal 7. Just a couple blocks east of the town hall.

I have eaten there every time I have visited Munich and enjoy the food. Their specialty is sausage, and they have almost too many varieties to try. If you are in a group, you can get a sampler platter for the table which contains several of the varieties. The beer is also good and focuses on wheat beer. It can be difficult to get a seat as it appears the place is popular with the locals as well as tourists. It even gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. :-)

So...we went to Augustiner Keller on the recommendation of our hotel clerk and it was FABULOUS! Sat outside under the trees in their huge park right near the railroad station- felt like we were in the country. The food was the best and it was great for people-watching. The next night we went to Hofbrau for beer and pretzels in the (small) garden and ate at the Rathskeller. That was a huge disappointment - food mediocre although the server was wonderful.
