Hofbrauhaus Bavarian Evenings?

I read something about the Hofbrauhaus in Munich having a nightly "Bavarian Evening" with a buffet and Bavarian entertainment. Even with Google, I was unable to find out information about pricing.

Has anyone attended this and if so, do they remember the cost? Also, do they give a discount for children?

I know that there are different sections of the Hofbrauhaus. This sounded fun but I don't know if it is the best way to experience it or not. We just thought it might be fun and yes, we know it is touristy!

Yes, I did, I admit it. And it was fun, and it was touristy. I can't recall the cost, we were with a tour group coming back from skiing in Austria. It was a fixed price for dinner and show. Beer was extra. The show was a traditional wind band and they alternated between a dance troop doing traditional dances and some guys who cracked buggy whips in time to the music, with plenty of breaks to sing "Ein Prosit". Other groups there were a large group of Italian men, probably in town for a technical conference and a group of Australian students. It was upstairs in a large hall.

Other than the buffet, this sound remarkably similar to what goes on at the Hofbräuhaus from opening 'til closing each day. The band plays all the time downstairs.

seahunt,

That sounds like the show that takes place in the large banquet room on the top floor. I've seen parts of it and as someone else mentioned, it is indeed very "touristy" (but perhaps worth seeing at least once).

THIS is in German but may contain information on the event you're looking for. Hopefully one of the German speakers on the Forum can point you in the right direction.

You'll have plenty enough entertainment by just staying on the main floor of the Hofbrauhaus. You'll also get to order exactly what you want to eat/drink without the added cost of food on the buffet you really don't want. Buffet's are also notorious for lower quality food (but lots of it). Do what you want, but the oom-pah band will be going strong on the main floor where everybody else is.

Yes, I've attended. My brother and I snuck up the back stairs to the banquet hall on the top floor and just grabbed some seats. We only drank beer (so I can't comment on the buffet) and watched the band and "whip crack" dancers. Even if it was cheesy it was loads of fun.

PS - we weren't intending on sneaking it, I was trying to show my brother the banquet hall and the main stairs were packed with people so I took a detour that I knew and we just popped out behind the stage with the show in full swing and just went with it.

For those interested, I wrote the Hofbrauhaus and got this reply:

In the main beer hall “Schwemme” on the ground floor as well as in the beer garden we cannot take reservations due to traditional reasons. There are about 1000 seats on free disposal. We offer daily live music from 12.00 h until 16.00 h and from 18.00 h with the traditional Hofbräuhaus-Brass band.

Please let us know the date, the arrival time and the number of persons. We will check then the availability in the festival hall in the 2nd floor with live music for you.

Possible would be a reservation in our historical festival hall on the second floor. Arrival time for reservations is in-between 18.00 h and 20.00 h for dinner.

In the festival hall is space for over 600 people, so other reservations will be seated here as well.
There is Bavarian live-music after 18.30 h and in-between Bavarian performances will be shown on stage.

An admission or charge for the music has not to be paid. You only pay for the food and drinks you choose.

To fix a reservation we need your telephone number.
Thank you.
We are open every day of the year from 09.00 h until 23.30 h.

Augustiner Keller is a great beer garden near the main station and is not quite so full of tourists.
