Hello, all.
How easy is it to catch the train and bus to Dachau memorial and back?
Where do I get tickets for the train and bus?
Thanks so much!
You can buy a Munich Day Pass or individual tickets out of the vending machine in the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station.
It is an ZoneM-1 ticket. 5.60 EUR single ticket, 10 EUR day ticket, 18.40 EUR Group Day Ticket.
Use the MVV Journey Planner, https://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/index.html#trip@enquiry
Assuming you want the camp memorial. Destination is Dachau KZ-Gedenkstaette
It's a very simple trip. Go west on the S2 (direction Petershausen or Altomünster) to the Dachau Bahnhof. At the Dachau station walk down the hill to the bus stops in front of the station and find the 726 bus to Dachau. The stop for the 726 bus to Dachau is well marked, because that's where almost everyone is going.
Thank you Sam and Lee!
We are concerned about making it back in time to get our luggage and train from Munich HBF to Vienna. Are you aware whether taxis or Uber are available near the memorial site to get back faster? We want to be able to stay at Dachau as long as possible without rushing back.
Brent,
As you have to be concerned about the time, one option you might consider would be to take a guided tour from Munich to Dachau - https://www.radiustours.com/tours-in-english/dachau-concentration-camp-memorial/ . They take care of all the transportation and provide information on the history of Dachau on the way to the Memorial. I found it helpful to have a guide who could answer any questions I had.
You could also do the trip on your own..... whatever you prefer.

You can always pack up and drop your luggage in a locker at the Hbf on the way to Dachau. When you are done at the memorial it about a 40-50 min trip back to the Hbf.

That's what I'd do (in fact, that's what I did when I went to Dachau).
