Hiking from Tegelberghaus to Neuschwanstein.

Has anyone hiked this path before? I am riding the lift to the top and want to hike down to the Marienbrucke and Neuschwanstein so I can take photos of the castle from up above. I am a seasoned hiker looking for any helpful info you can provide on the route.

There are several variants of that path. I'd follow the so called "Maximiliansweg". It's a bit narrow on some spots but generally easy and without problems. You need, of course, sturdy shoes. The variant through the "Gelbe Wand" is more demanding and I'd rather not go there with a valuable camera. Have a look at this map and the accompanying (somewhat flowery) description (in German; hopefully, Google can cope with it). Before you descend from the Tegelberghaus you might consider the short detour to the Brandnerschrofen described here, which gives beautiful views.

Thank you so very much for this information, it is just what I needed. Google translate did a pretty good job with it. Looking forward to taking this hike in late September.

We found the route with the map you can get for free at the Tegelbergbahn. When we were there a few years ago one of the paths was closed as there had been a small landslide with the winter melt. The path down is not for seniors or young children as there are some difficult spots. Anyway from the Tegelberg Bergbahn park place, up to the Tegelberg on the Bahn, walk down to the iron bridge and then walk back to the Bergbahn park place through the farmer fields is a 3-4 hour hike. Go prepared with good hiking shoes and cloths. I had to scoot on my butt over some rocks on the way down. As a seasoned hiker you should have no problem.

I've been looking forward to this hike for a long time. I am travelling with 4 non hikers so they will be touring the castle. I've seen the castle 4 times, It's nice but I'm sure it hasn't changed since the last time I saw it. So they will drop me off at the lift and go on their merry way to the castle while I take in the scenery and enjoy the hike with my camera. We all meet later in the day for bier at the bottom of the hill. Thanks for the information on the map and advice on the trail.
