We will be in Strasbourg and would like to spend a couple of days hiking in Black Forest area or Vosges that we can access within a couple of hours by train. Any suggestions? Thanks!
There are some nice vineyard walks in the Alsace. We did these two a few years ago as one outing, arriving at the starting point by taxi and taking a bus at the end.

Last fall we stopped in the TI in Turkheim and asked about a short hike and they gave us a handy little map with several outlined. You can see them on the second page of this brochure https://reservation.tourisme-colmar.com/medias/documents/documentation/documentation-PLANTURCKH-UK.pdf.
Nothing very challenging and trains only serve some of the villages.
Train to Colmar for the day, nice , interesting town
Best to take the train out to Barr (direct line). I would certainly choose to stay in Barr but maybe you are locked into staying in Straz.
From Barr simple enough hiking into the forests of the Vosges you can easily locate the ruins of 800 year old castles. Chateau du Spesbourg, Chateau de Haut Andlau and Chateau du Landsbourg.
Also if up for a more serious hike you can climb up to Mont Sainte Odile (it's been a religious centrr for about 1400 years). There are various other ruins scattered throughout the beautiful forests and some great view points. Back in the valley visit the wine villages of Andlau, Mittelberghem and gorgeous little Heiligenstein. Barr itself is a very nice smaller Alsace towns. The old parts of town have all the classic Alsation buildings.
Been a while but we stayed and also ate at Maison du Rouge. Possibly not " classy" enough for Rick Steves style travellers but did us Aussie bogan just fine.
