We will be in Strasbourg and would like to spend a couple of days hiking in Black Forest area or Vosges that we can access within a couple of hours by train. Any suggestions? Thanks!
There are some nice vineyard walks in the Alsace. We did these two a few years ago as one outing, arriving at the starting point by taxi and taking a bus at the end.

Last fall we stopped in the TI in Turkheim and asked about a short hike and they gave us a handy little map with several outlined. You can see them on the second page of this brochure https://reservation.tourisme-colmar.com/medias/documents/documentation/documentation-PLANTURCKH-UK.pdf.
Nothing very challenging and trains only serve some of the villages.
Train to Colmar for the day, nice , interesting town
In late 2024 we did a six day walk through the Vosges and had a good time. We are not great hikers ie off in the hills roughing it but can easily do walks and this was an organised walk with accommodation booked, luggage moved between hotels and a downloaded map with GPS and linked to an on line ‘voice’ which kept us on the straight and narrow. We used U Tracks based in Australia and they employ. British company to do the local organisation. The English voice made my poor French seem wonderful !
The ‘tracks’ are rather poorly defined at times and a few times just guessed but the voice told us off so back we went and some knowledge of maps eg able to read contour lines and have a good sense of direction and be prepared to go off the route at times eg when forest are blocked by logging trucks or if work is being done. But we got there just fine.
In late October we were often the only people up in the hills and could go hours seeing very few others. We missed bad weather, really just one day iof drizzle and ion that day up to Haut Konigsberg we ditched the advised forest tracks and just stuck to the roads. No problems.
Some parts had few facilities so a day pack required water and food and one section near Chattenois had no toilets and towns were down the hill and even there some lacked such facilities.
An excellent adventure into the wild but close to civilisation.
Sounds like a great hike in the Vosges! Thanks for your input!
