High water in Germany

The rains keep coming and many creeks and rivers are starting to overflow their banks. This has been a problem on the Main for a couple of weeks now and the Rhine as well as the Neckar are extending over their banks now too. If you were planning on visiting this area this week or next, make sure you check with your hotel and the trains to see if they are being affected.

Webcam is located at Boppard.

Thanks for the info and links. I had no idea this was going on. Is the confluence of the three rivers at Passau similarly affected? The the webcams that I could see didn't look as bad. River cruise people should check with their company too as some bridges are too low for boats to pass under when water levels rise this much.

The level of the Danube in Passau today at noon was 7.23 m (far from the catastrophic peak at 10 meters 21 in 2013; normal level is around 5.95). The Danube promenade is flooded, but the higher parts of the old town are not affected. Shipping on the Danube is discontinued until further notice. Despite decreasing rainfall, the water levels may increase due to melting snow in the Alps, the waters of which are brought into the Danube by the river Inn.

The Mosel was overflowing today too when I checked, but it is now too dark to look at the webcams.

It is still raining in Frankfurt and much of Germany which doesn't help the situation.

Heidelberg looks like that a couple of times every year.

It's always at the same spot (naturally) under the "Alte Brücke", and nobody is really bothered much by it except if you forgot to relocate your parked car. ;-)

I had heard a little bit about river flooding a few days ago on PBS but no follow-up and no news on the regular networks (at least as I saw.)
So thanks, Jo, for alerting folks on the Forum.

I wish there were a webcam in St. Goar. We stayed last October at the Hotel am Markt, and I'm concerned about it being flooded. It's right across from, and not much higher than, the KD dock.

I was in Boppard in 2004 and the effects of the flood a year before very evident on the hotels facing the river. At least one looked like it was closed to renovate the first floor, which showed extensive damage.

The flood has also arrived in the Netherlands, today reached it’s highest level but there are luckely no serious inconveniences to report.
