Hidden gem hotels in Munich

I’m travelling with my husband May 3-9 to Munich and I’m wondering if anyone has some hotel recommendations? Obviously there’s Expedia and other sites but I know they’re often sponsored so just wondering what else is out there. Location is important to us, to be near-ish to Marienplatz I’m guessing. Included breakfast is nice, and clean of course. Hopefully around the $120 range give or take. Just putting it out there - you never know!

Honestly, I like to search Google Maps. Simply click the hotel icon while in the area near where you want to stay, set the price filter, and then hover and click until you find what works for you. This is often how we find hotels!

Sorry I can't give you a specific recommendation.

I do what Howlin does. I am staying at Hotel Stachus for 2 nights in May. The price range is right. The reviews give it high marks for location (in between the train station and old town) and lower marks cuz it isn't fancy. You can check it out and photos on google and Tripadvisor.

Hi Lindsay- You didn't give too many requirements- Just "hidden Gems" ,near-ish Marienplatz, nice breakfast, and $120 give or take price range. Hotel costs are all tied to TIME OF YEAR, lifts, A/C, room size, bed types, a few still allow limited smoking, LOCATION, Mini fridge, parking, check-in and out procedures, dogs. number of folks in room, modern or "rustic", private or shared bathrooms, close to public transportation, TV, Internet, etc. All of the hotels in your price range near-ish the Marienplatz are veeery small and/or have no lift and/or A/C , and/or are dumps. Parking is also usually very expensive, breakfasts are not universal, etc.

That being said, here are a few hotels that are available. Your dates are in the second week of Fruhlingsfest (AKA Spring Festival) so rooms may be more expensive and some hotels are "fully booked". I checked Booking .com for availability of some of the hotels and hotel chain web sites for the rest. You can narrow the list down by listing your requirements and then looking up the hotels on the internet. For example, a ground floor room or a lift is a must for me because of age and heart problems. I have stayed in the majority of these hotels or in a similar hotel in the chained hotels.

None of the hotels listed below are close to the Marienplatz but are close to the UBahn which is the public transportation subway system in Munich. Most of the hotels (except the Pullman mentioned by Steven and the IBIS) are within 4 stops of the Marienplatz.

HOTELS WEST of the Marienplatz ,
Hotel Jedermann ( $120 ish per night),
Aloft ( about $150 per night),
Motel 1 West ( $120 per night),
Hampton Inn west,
Hilton Garden Inn West ,
Marriott Courtyard Center,

HOTELS EAST of the Marienplatz,
Motel 1 Haidhausen ($110 per night),
Motel 1 East ($100)

HOTELS NORTH of the Marienplatz,
Adria ($ 120 ish per night),
Pullman ($ 150 per night),
IBIS North ($ 85 per night, it is about 4 blocks to the Sbahn)

Have a great (short) trip!!!
