Help with Visiting Mosel & Rheingau

I plan on heading to the 2 regions during my holiday and was looking for some help in planning my time there. I plan on departing München early on Saturday morning, 23.09.17 via train. I would have until I check out early Tuesday morning on 26.09.17. While there, I'd like to do a river trip on either the Moselle river or Rhine via KD. While is Rheingau, I'd like to visit Wegeler and Barth wineries as well as possibly do the KD boat trip to the Mittelrhein region and getting off in Eltville to spend the night or 2. While I am in the Mosel region, I'd like to visit Burg Eltz, Cochem, and Trier. I'd also be up for doing the KD trip in Mosel if it's a better option to travel the region as opposed to the train. I'm in contact with the wineries; however, I haven't set up my appointments yet due to being unsure if I should go to Mosel first and then Rheingau, or the other way around. One of the days there is a Sunday and I know a lot of things are closed down on a Sunday, so I was thinking of Mosel first and spend the Sunday on the Moselle KD boat. If anyone would have any advice on this as well as navigating the region, I would greatly appreciate this. Thank you in advance!

I am confused. Are you saying this is what you plan for three days?

That's a lot to cram into 2 and 1/2 days! Trier requires most of a day in itself! You could possibly do Burg Eltz and Cochem in 1 day and spend the other full day on the Rhein. If it were me I would spend the 2 and 1/2 days either on the Mosel OR on the Rhein. There are other interesting sights on the Rhein you didn't mention - such as Rheinfells and Marksburg. A KD boat trip will take a minimum of a few hours.

If you are interested in wineries and the Rheingau, then Eltville is truly the place to spend some time. Head up to Eberbach monastery as I believe they have the largest vineyards and their wine is superior. Visit the town of Kiedrich on your way there or coming back. Eltville has a goodly number of wineries too.

Only stores are closed on Sundays. Everything else is open and most of these towns do a booming business on Sundays at their restaurants. Tourist attractions are also open.

This place in Eltville might have rooms, plus you can talk to them about their winery.
