Help with train travel

Hi,
We are wondering if we should get a flexible train pass, but feeling overwhelmed trying to check prices/schedules on the DB site. We are 2 seniors traveling together. We'd prefer not to be tied into scheduled trips unless necessary
Here is our itinerary:
first night in Frankfurt after flying in
1. Train to Nuremberg
while in Nuremberg, day trip to Bamburg
(and possible day trip to Regensberg)
2. Train from Nuremberg to Bingen
boat to St Goar
3. Train from St Goar to Cochem
4. Train from Cochem to Limburg
5. Train from Limburg to Marburg
day trip to Bad Nauheim
6. Train from Marburg to Frankfurt Intl Airport
So does the pass make sense? Can it be used for trains in the Rhine and Mosel areas?
Would we need to reserve any of these trips?
Thanks in advance for any feedback
Cathy

I forgot to mention - we will be traveling in April and May, so we would buy the discounted German rail pass if that makes sense.
Thanks

The only legs t could see that a pass might be useful for is Frankfurt - Nürnberg and Nürnberg - Bingen. The rest is easily and cheper done by using flexible regional passes, e.g. Nürnberg- Bamberg VGN TagesticketPlus €19.70 for the entire family; Nürnberg - Regensburg. Similar day passes exist in Rheinland-Pflaz (Cochem) and Hessen (Limburg, Marburg, Bad Nauheim). Transport on days 3-5 is on regional trains anyway.

For the Frankfurt - Nürnberg and Nürnberg - Bingen legs you could book reduced tickets which are train-specific; details on www.bahn.com. Book soon since prices will go up.
