Help with train transfer time in Munch Ost

Hello! Need to know if 6 minutes is enough time to change trains from Munich main station (Ost) to the Hbf train that goes to Salzburg. I think i have to cross 8 tracks in that time....?

The Salzburg train leaves Ost hourly; the S8 runs every 20 minutes. So, only one out of three chances you'll have to make the change in 6 minutes. And, if you miss the 6 minute connection, most times there is another train in hour.

Why don't you take an earlier train to be sure to catch the Salzburg train? Your train ticket will be valid on all those trains. You'll have to wait a while at München-Ost, but you don't have to worry about catching your train.

Or get a Bayern ticket which will take care of local (S-bahn) and Munich-Salzburg-Munich trains for the entire day after 9 a.m. -- but only second-class, non-reservations.

Am I correct in assuming that you are arriving at Munich Airport, then taking the S-Bahn to Munich Hbf or Ost, then taking a train to Salzburg? As was said in the previous post, just get a Bayern Ticket for 25 EUR if you are single, (31 for 2, 37 for 3, etc). You will not be able to ride the EC or Railjet trains, but it is only a 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 train ride, so 1st class is kind of a waste. Also if you buy a nonrefundable ticket, and your plane is late and you miss it, you will have to start from scratch anyway.

Thank you all so much!!! We purchased our 1st class tickets form Munich Hbf to Salzburg Hbf and will just get a single ticket day of from Marienplatz to Munich Hbf about 30 minutes before our 1st class train departs. (No we aren’t coming from airport) Thanks everyone!!!

I guess now that is clear what your starting point is, you could have bought the 1st class ticket from Munich Marienplatz to Salzburg. By the German ticketing rules, you can take any local train before your connection to an IC, ICE, EC, or RJ train. So instead of a 6 minute connection at Ostbahnhof, you could have just taken an earlier S-Bahn from Marienplatz, as they go about every 2 or 3 minutes.

Your ticket is probably valid on the S-Bahn from Marienplatz as well. What type of ticket did you buy?
