Help with train seat reservations using Bahn.de website

Hi All,

I have used the Bahn.de website to purchase train tickets and seat reservations a few times with no problems. However, I am having trouble with the seat reservation part on a Munich to Paris trip this fall. Specifically, 6 September 2018 Munich to Stuttgart 8:18 to 10:46 on ICE 690 then Stuttgart to Paris
10:54 to 14:05 on ICE 9574. I can purchase an inexpensive ticket for the entire trip and obtain a specific seat assignment on the Munich-Stuttgart leg, but I cannot get a specific seat assigned on the Stuttgart to Paris leg. I even tried a "dummy" purchase for late April to see if there was a problem with the early booking and ran into the same problem. Can anyone provide some insight on how to overcome this specific seat assignment problem?

Many thanks-

It is an international journey. DB just says "reservation impossible" for all the Stuttgart-Paris trains. When I try to book a ticket separately, it shows that the seat reservation is included with the ticket.

Thanks Sam-

I guess I will trust the bahn.de website to select seats for me as I cannot figure out how to choose one myself. Anyway, thanks again for trying to help.

I actually booked a Munich-Paris train yesterday. Bahn.de would not let me select a seat, a seat was assigned.
My booking was on the direct early morning train. I went to the French rail site and it let me book the seat of my choice. You might check doing it through the French site. www.sncf.com/en

I booked from Munich to Salzburg with a layover and then on to Budapest (thanks, Russ!). I was only able to select the seats for the first leg. Am I to assume seats will be selected for me on the second leg? How will I know as I have printed out my ticket already? Do I go into my account to check? Thanks.

Hi Baxter- did you purchase the ticket on the Bahn.de website and then go to the other site to select your seat?
I thought you would be assigned a seat during the purchase process and not have a chance to change it.

Thanks for the help...

I purchased on the French rail site.
One thing to check out is the refund/exchange. On the French site there is no refund, DB would refund except for a 19 euro charge for my ticket.
Usually, I purchase on DB and a seat is assigned. On this trip the train is a double decker and I wanted to be in the lower part. DB kept assigning me to upper deck.
Wherever you purchase be sure to register on the site. This allows you to manage your booking.
If I remember correctly you can also select your own seat if you purchase through www.trainline.eu.
