Help with December Itinerary

Hi,

We are planning a trip in mid - end December (intend to leave Germany on 28 December) and was wondering if the below itinerary makes sense and are the number of nights sufficient. We can add a couple of nights if needed.

We will be travelling by public transport. Is the below route possible or are there any parts that we should rent a car?

We are interested in scenic views, Christmas markets, some castles, less on museums and history.

Have been to Berlin and Dresden thus won't be going there this time round.

Munich (0 night)

Blackforest and Baden Baden (3 nights in Blackforest)

Strasbourg (1 night)

Stuttgart (2 nights)

Nuremberg and Rothenburg ob der tauber (2 nights in Nuremberg)

Salzberg (1 night)

Fussen and bavarian alps (2 nights)

Munich (2 nights)

Thanks for helping!

Check the dates for Christmas markets as most of them end on the 22nd or 23rd.
On the 24th, the country almost shuts down by 14:00 at the latest, earlier in smaller towns. If you want dinner somewhere, make reservations in a nice hotel as pretty much all of the restaurants will be closed. The 25th and 26th are official holidays, so stores will be closed, but restaurants will be busy. Some tourist attractions and museums will be closed, others open, so check websites.

If you are in Stuttgart when the Christmas market is on, you are in luck. This is probably the best big city market in Germany. Consider taking a side trip to Esslingen too, for their medieval market. Plus, the town is gorgeous, full of half-timbered houses and a beautiful, ancient church.
