Help! Itinerary Munich 9 days in March

Hi! We will be traveling to Munich the middle of March. We are flying in and out of Munich. Our plan was to spend a couple days in Munich and maybe a couple of days in Fussen or Garmisch.

For the rest of our trip we would love to go to another country. We have toyed with the idea of either Prague or Verona.

What are your thoughts? Are either of these doable or even suggested from Munich?

I must start narrowing down our itinerary ASAP.

Another question would be if we are traveling to two countries should we use just the city to city DB passes, or a Eurorail pass?

Thanks!

I think with only 9 days if you wanted to pick another country I would do Austria and Salzburg, but you really don't have a lot of time.

"For the rest of our trip we would love to go to another country."

9 days will go quickly. From Munich, both of your choices are 5+ hours out, and 5+ hours back again.

Austria is beautiful, historic, and a good bit closer; Salzburg is less than 2 hours from Munich by direct train.

Of course there is much in Germany that is nothing at all like Munich, or like the German Alps towns. You could head to Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage city with a fine medieval town center, which is located near Munich on the Danube River, in less than 1.5 hours.

I'd suggest going 2 hrs. east of Munich to Salzburg for a couple of days and the balance of your time in either Vienna or Budapest. There is very good train service to both cities out of Salzburg. They are both very lively and important cities with many sights and wonderful museums to see.
If you decide to go to either city, give me a PM and I can tell you a couple of B&B's to stay in that are both great.
Few people are longer using Eurorail pases--going for direct tickets instead.
