We want to catch a 10:30 boat in Bingen and go to Braubach to tour Marksburg next July. However, the KD schedule for summer (2015) shows all the mid-morning boats stopping in Boppard. How do we get to Braubach? We cannot take the earlier boat, as we will be too jet lagged. We will be training from Mainz to Bingen to get the boat and will have a train pass for the day. Are there other boat lines that will make this journey? Am I missing something? Seems weird that the mid-morning boats stop at Boppard.
We want to take a Rhine cruise, tour Marksburg and Rheinfels and eat lunch and dinner in a cute village then train back to Mainz on either a Sunday or Monday in July. I was thinking cruise to the farthest point (Braubach) and then work our way back via train. Also, I assume there is some type of regular cheap ferry to cross the river at Braubach?
I know others will say just stay upstream at Boppard, which we could also do, but Mainz makes a good base for us, as we also want to go to Heidelberg and want to be fairly close to easy connection to FRA airport for our last day. We could stay 2 nights at Boppard and then 1 night in Mainz, if it was a ton more convenient for Rhine touring. thanks, Elaine

There is less demand for boats north of Boppard because the scenery deteriorates on the way to Koblenz.
Good choice to start the cruise in Bingen. Be sure to show your Rheinland-Pfalz ticket/day pass at the KD kiosk in Bingen to get a discount on your cruise fare. Best way is to end the cruise in St. Goarshausen (11:55) where you will have seen the best the river has to offer. (Your level "G" fare to St. G'hausen of €19.40 will be closer to €15 each with your discount.) Then from the dock in St. G'hausen, walk north to the station there and board a train to Braubach (12:32) (just 22 minutes) for Marksburg. (Your Rheinland-Pfalz day pass is good for that trip too.) Braubach's attractive Marktplatz (market square) in the old town is a nice place for a meal, by the way; the Zum Goldenen Schlüssel has traditional German offerings:

Your R-P day pass gets you back to Mainz as well by train. Just board a southbound train from Braubach and return via Wiesbaden. Stop over in Rüdesheim on the way back for a look around if you have time.
thank you so much! that is exactly what I needed! I knew there must be a way to do that.
