Help creating a trip ending in Munich

I have a unique opportunity to travel for a couple of weeks in April with my 29 year old son. We would like to finish in Munich sometime in mid to late April but other than that our itinerary is wide open. I know that the weather in Munich and environs can be rainy and cool at that time of year but we don't have flex on timing. What we can do is travel from most anywhere, which is fairly exciting! We have both been to France and to Italy more than once so perhaps we might begin our trip somewhere new? I am interested in Ljubljana but wondering if April is especially off-season there and things might be closed? Maybe Austria? Other suggestions? Easter 2026 is April 5-will that cause closures and travel complications in that part of the world such that we should avoid those dates?

We both love train travel so I am hoping for advice on a scenic journey that might involve stops for 2-3 nights in a couple of places along the way (for a total of a week or 10 days of exploring on the way to Munich). We travel slowly and enjoy good food, history and experiencing a new culture and would appreciate any fun trip ideas that you might share.

Since you only wish to fly home from Munich, and since you mention Slovenia, Austria, and "most anywhere" as possibilities for the balance of your trip - rather than options in Germany - I suggest you post your question to the General Europe forum.

April is in most areas more low / near season. Around Easter more people are traveling, so prices can be higher.

Be aware that in Germany and other countries shops are / can be closed on Sundays. Cafes, restaurants and sights can be open but check opening times individually. Good Friday and Easter Monday are holidays with closed shops as well.

Bavaria offers a lot of travel options on its own.

At mid / end of April you will find some blossom options depending on weather of course, e. g. Bonn and other places along Rhine Valley. The Upper Mid Rhine Valley between Mainz and Koblenz is a nice train ride and provides options for day cruises with castle visits.

If your son likes cars the BMW Welt and Museum might be of interest. The spring festival in Munich often opens first around end of April.

At Easter some communities celebrate bonfires or medieval festivals.

I'd fly into Vienna, go to Prague, and home from Munich. There's a huge amount of stuff to see and do within that area. That itinerary is one i often put forth to my friends who've never been to Europe before as there's a lot of cultural differences between the three countries. And every one of those cities can easily take a week or more to get to know, but 3 days is almost perfect for the first time.

Thank you, everyone, for the ideas. We do not yet have an arrival city booked but I like the Vienna-Prague-Munich itinerary. Sounds like a great trip to place that I have not travelled.
