Me and my buddies are flying to Munich in March for Spring Break, we are planning on checking out Neuschwanstein, and we wanted to hike Herzogstand and Heimgarten. Will March be okay for this? And what is the best way to go about this from Munich? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Herzogstand and Heimgarten will almost certainly still be covered in snow in March. The upper slopes will be impassible.
Neuschwanstein, on the other hand, is easily accessible. Just take the train to Füssen.
Thank you Tom, do you have any suggestions for similar things to do?
The most beautiful part of the hike, the ridge between Herzogstand an Heimgarten will bei inaccessible until around mid May. The Herzogstandhaus, however, will be open and accessible via the so called "Reitweg" or by the Herzogstand funicular (http://www.berggasthaus- herzogstand.de/). A few steps above the Herzogstandhaus there is a viewpoint that gives fines views on boths lakes, Walchensee and Kochelsee.
The Herzgostandbahn and the Reitweg can bea reached via train to Kochel and RVO Bus to »Urfeld Herzogstandbahn«.
