Has anyone stayed at Hotel Müller Hohenschwangau or Hotel Sonne Füssen?

Hello. We want to visit the Tegelberg cable car. We'll drive to the area in a rental car the night before and overnight. The next morning, the plan is to take the cable car up and hike back to the parking lot and drive on to our next stop. We've identified two hotels that are in our price range that seem pretty solid: Hotel Müller Hohenschwangau or Hotel Sonne Füssen.

We're having a hard time picking between these hotels. Hotel Sonne seems like more of a traditional hotel, which we like, but you have to pay for parking and Fussen is a little farther away and the view from the hotel almost assuredly isn't as nice. Hotel Müller is more of a self-service hotel, but it's closer, has free parking, and presumably is in a nicer natural setting with nicer views.

Any recommendation between the two based on your personal experience? Thanks.

Thanks. They require a 2-night stay, unlike the hotels mentioned above.

I was looking at Hotel Sonne for this summer. I don't know your travel dates, but Sonne requires a minimum 3 night stay during "seasonal high demand" per their email to me about July dates. Just FYI.

The first time I went to Füssen was in 1988. We came down with the train from Munich, then went on to Immenstadt for the night. The second time we came with the bus from the Oberallgäu, near Oberstdorf, and went back at the end of the day, but when we got to Hohenschwangau we had lunch at Müller. The last time I went to the castles (Neuschwanstein) we were spending three nights in Pfronten, where I had previously stayed twice before. The second day in Pfronten, we made the trip by bus to Neuschwanstein. As I remember, at the time, bus transportation in the Ostallgäu, with a Königskarte was included in the Kurtax with the price of our room.

Staying overnight at Müller would be a great experience, right in town below the castles, but very pricey. But that price does include breakfast. It looks like Sonne would be somewhat less expensive, but the lower price does not include breakfast; including breakfast would take away much of the price advantage. But Sonne does not have the right-next-to-the-castles experience.

When I stayed in Pfronten, I stayed here. It's not right at the castles, like Müller, but it's a beautiful Gasthaus in a lovely town, Pfronten-Steinach. At 85€/nt, it's worth not being right at the castles, and breakfast is included in that price.

I have stayed at Hotel Sonne a number of times , and will be staying there next October for four nights , between Munich and Vienna . My wife and myself are fond of the area and Sonne is a perfect fit for us .
