I rented a car for 2 days in Germany and then received a ticket in the mail. An online article said that some people have just sent payment in check form. any ino you can give me would be helpful. I understand that this is happening all over Europe. Thank You!
This is a duplicate post. There are answers in the other post here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/how-to-handle-a-traffic-ticket-from-germany
Just do bank transfer. IBAN number shall be in the letter as well as sending address.
Just curious. Did you receive a ticket from a jurisdiction or a charge from a car rental company? The reason I ask is because I would pay the jurisdiction straight away by money order. If it is from a car rental agency, I would demand seeing the actual ticket. I personally believe many "franchise" car rental agencies are using this as an additional revenue generating gimmick. A car rental agency telling you they received a ticket when you had the car isn't proof enough for me. I want something from the jurisdiction issuing the ticket. Just my way of thinking.
For the record, I worked for 2 leading car rental companies in the US for several years and I know the tactics they used, especially in the area of additional fuel charges.
We had this experience in Germany in 2012. My son was driving on this trip. When we returned home, over about 3 weeks time, I received notification from Avis that they were charging my credit card $20 to provide my information to the municipalities so that they could issue the ticket. This happened 5 times! I only received one ticket, so I did make sure to pay that one via wire transfer. The ticket was a nice picture of my son behind the wheel. Needless to say he has never lived this down. I cancelled my credit card, because I felt as though Avis was using this as an excuse to bill me. I'm probably wrong, but this has never happened to me after renting cars at least 10 times in Germany. Needles to say I never rent from Avis any more.
I received the citation from the city. Thanks for the info I have it handled with a wire transfer.
Try TransferWise. It's a lot cheaper than a bank wire transfer.
