Hamburg in the Rain

I visited Hamburg 2 years ago in October - and it rained almost every day. The tour bus had all windows fogged up. They gave us papertowels to wipe the windows. Didn't help. If you visit between October and February, this could be your experience. Here are a few rainy day suggestions:
Visit Miniature World in the Hafen City. Incredible what they have created in miniature. Even an airport with planes taking off. Be prepared for long line-ups. Everyone else is heading there.

Visit the Old Elbetunnel at St Pauli Landungsbruecken. It's free and it gave me goosebumps to think you are walking under the River Elbe.

On Sunday morning, visit the Altona Fishmarket (all indoors). Oct 5:00 am to 9:30 am, Nov to Feb 7:00 to 9:30 am. Vendors holler out their wares and prices. Great seafood meals and deals on about anything.

Starting in Feb 2017, tours are offered of the new Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall. Individual tickets are sold for tours in German only. Group tours can be arranged in other languages as well.

Are there any other sites to visit - any other recommendations?.

Indoors, visit a musical show. Hamburg has a lot of musical theatres. I think attendance is third after New York and London.
Visit the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte, giving you some insight into the history of that old merchant town, the Hanse and even the real story of Klaus Störtebecker.
Visit the BallinStadt emmigrant museum. Maybe your ancestors left here for the U.S.

Outdoors, walk through the Treppenviertel in Blankenese, it has a lot of picturesque small houses. From the top the Süllberg, you have a nice view on the Elbe river and the ocean ships arriving and departing.
Check out the various museum ships in the harbour. Do a boat tour in the harbour.

I used to hate the clouds (and occasional rain) in Germany. Now I love them. It's too damn sunny where I live in the U.S.

You can take the harbour bus, much cheaper than a tour so you don't mind if you are stuck inside and don't see as much. During winter it does not go to Blankenese but you can get off at Övelgönne. That's another Hamburg suburb with nice old houses along the shore of the Elbe river. There's even a beach there! Walk a little bit and then head inside of one of the restaurants/cafes that offer great views over the Elbe river. Have a cup of coffee/tea to warm up and watch the ships and people go by. That's what I did last year at the end of January and it was indeed a memorable afternoon.
