We will be in Hamburg 2 days before our Rick Steves tour begins. I have noticed that Hamburg offers a "Hamburg card". Is it worth the price as it has % discounts not free entry.. but transportation is free. Anyone have experience with this?

I purchased the family/group version of the card for a trip two years ago. Just one card covered four people. I crunched the numbers and it was a phenomenal deal, even though I used the entry discount at just one attraction; Minitur Wonderland. Hamburg is a big spread-out city so you will be using the subways a lot, (also covers the ride from the airport to the city center)so it was very handy. Be sure to install the official HVV transit app on your phone. You can purchase the card via the app before you arrive in the city with a credit card, and store it on your phone.

Thank you for that information. Knowing about the app and the ride from the airport is great. I didn't notice that when I checked it out initially. Guess it will be a go!
