Hamburg and neighbourhood

I'll be in Hamburg on 24th Jun. and I'll stay in Germany until 29th Jun. I have to be in Hamburg first two days beacuse of my training but after that I want to travel near cities.

I think I could go to Berlin with bus, or do you offer any other place to visit not so far from Hamburg? (because I'll return to home from Hamburg Airport so I have to be in Hamburg at 29th Jun.)

And where should I visit in Hamburg?

Miniatur Wunderland is AWESOME! But get there as soon as it opens. By 10 in the morning, it can get pretty packed.

I also particularly enjoyed the maritime museum, if you have an interest in that sort of thing.

I've visited dozens of municipal art museums in Europe, and quite frankly, they're all starting to blur together. But for me, Hamburg's Kunsthalle stands, mainly because it houses several works by Caspar David Friedrich, my favorite painter.

Although I have not yet visited either, I understand both nearby Wismar and Lübeck are worth a look.

Another option is to visit Wunderland in the evening. On some nights it's open quite late until 10 or 11 pm. I also enjoyed the maritime museum, but it's massive and hard to do in one day. For adults it's best to start at the top floor and work your way down, as the bottom floors are more geared to kids.

Hamburg has an amazing harbour. But you don't need to pay for an expensive harbour boat tour to see the highlights. A dayticket for public transit does not only include busses and U-Bahn but also the harbour ferries. Don't miss out on those!

I would also visit the Church of St. Michael. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Hamburg and you get a great view if you climb up the tower. A good starting point to get an overview of the city and an idea of the incredible size of the harbour.

Just focus on Hamburg and Lübeck - and a day-trip to Lüneburg. There is so much to see and do. Huge Turkish population in Hamburg as well.

Dedicate one Hamburg day alone to the Elbvororte (from St. Pauli all the way to Wedel). It's amazing and places like the town center of Blankenese you wouldn't have expected that far North. It's like a little pirates' village - just nicer.

Lüneburg is one day-trip, so is Lübeck. It's all doable by train (very fast, very convenient, not expensive at all).

Hi,

Yes, you could go to Berlin from Hamburg by bus, if you don't mind additional travel time over the ICE train from Hamburg Hbf to Berlin Hbf. Totally agreed with Lüneburg or Lübeck as day trips from Hamburg Hbf. Each requires a day.
