Gutshof zum Schluxen

Does Rick Steve Still use Gutshof zum Schluxen hotel while visiting Neuschwanstein Castle area?
The RS video of area is older and don't know if its still used and would like to hear current reviews of hotel to stay for independent travel, not with a group . We are planning to go in October for 2 nights in area.

If you don't go to zum Schluxen, you might want to stay in Pfronten. Pfronten is just a few km up the Außerfernbahn, over the border in Germany. I stayed there twice and liked it better than Reutte, where I spent a few hours between trains.

Pfronten is actually a collection of over a dozen little villages (Reid, Steinach, Weissbach, et al) which have grown together over the years. Although it's too far from the castles to hike, it's less than a half hour from Füssen by almost hourly bus, and you get a pass for the buses by staying in an accommodation there.

There are a whole lot of places to stay in Pfronten. This is just one of them. I stayed here three years ago and would recommend it.

Our tours stopped using that lovely hotel a year or two ago because it changed owners and they had different intentions for their property. I thought they meant to focus on horse riding, though it's not clear from their web site what happened with that plan.

The 21-day Best of Europe tour now stays in the town of Reutte, which doesn't have the same atmosphere. If you want to be in the countryside, I'd still consider the Schluxen.
