guided tours in Bavaria and southern Germany

Hi...my wife and I are taking our grandson on a week-long trip to Germany as a high school graduation gift and we think that a tour would be the best and most convenient way to do this. Although we lived in Germany for three years many years ago and both speak some German, we are now somewhat older and had a good experience on a tour several years ago, although it was a bit too heavy on churches. We would have enjoyed perhaps a visit to a brewery and maybe an auto plant....just not so many churches, especially with a young boy in tow. I would welcome any thoughts and experiences in this regard...also recommendations.
Thanks.

I would try to do it without an overall guided tour. Munich itself offers a lot of sightseeing variety within the city or by easy day trip. Do reserve ahead for the BMW factory tour (which I loved); they speak English when you call or email. Many people opt for a one-day bus tour to get around Ludwig's castles. Dachau Concentration Camp is earily close, right on the S-Bahn. Munich Walk (www.munichwalktours.de) and Radius Tours (www.radiustours.com) are also recommended for city walks or out-of-town excursions.
