Gray Line tour to Neuschwanstein

Has anyone done the Premium Tour from Munich to Neuschwanstein? I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $. Thank you.

Having done Neuschwanstein on my own three times, I've always felt the regular tour at $62 was overpriced. I really can't see how adding $100 a person can make it less so.

if you do the trip yourself, round trip to Hohenschwangau on the train, including the bus from the Füssen Bhf, will cost th two of you 31€ for a Bayern-Ticket (a little more than 36€ to leave before 9 AM on a workday) and reserved tickets to Neuschwansein will cost another 30€, so 61€ (about $71) vs $124 for the basic tour for two.

In my opinion, after three trips to Neuschwanstein and another to see Hohenschwangau and having spent three nights in Oberammergau on two trips, including on where I visited Linderhof and it's grounds for most of a day, one hour in Linderhof is totally inadequate. It's just enough time to tour the small palace and glimpse the fountain in front of it; there is much more to see on the grounds, including the grotto, which I don't think could be seen with only an hour there. And only 40 minutes in Oberammergau isn't even a laugh, it's a cry.

Again, in my opinion, the short time at these two venues is totally inadequate and was only added to make the tour difficult to duplicate by public transportation, thus justifying it's overprice. If you do this trip on your own, you could include Ludwig's childhood home of Hohenschwangau, which is probably as interesting, if not more so, than that brief visit to Linderhof.

My two sons and I took a Bayern train from Munich to Fussen to see both Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We had no problem at all with the logistics. The tours at each castle are sufficient, can't see what a private tour guide at additional cost would add. I enjoyed Hohenschwangau more the Neuschwanstein. You get much more family information at Hohenschwangau, that castle was actually lived in and the tour was more interesting, I'd do that one prior to Neuschwanstein. You will want sufficient time to walk to the different viewpoints of Neuschwanstein. The exterior is far more interesting than the interior. The town of Fussen is also interesting to walk around.
