We decide to rent a car spend a few days from Frankfurt to Heidelberg to Würzburg to Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Füssen to Schloss Neuschwanstein and finally drive to Munich and return the car. We always like to take a look from google street view for the route we are going to. Seems not all the roads have google street view.
Wondering the route we are going to the places list as above are difficult to drive?
Are there any cliff or very narrow road along the routes?
If not all the roads have google streetview and google maps showing, is google map still working well? Or need actual GPS?
Thanks in advance.
All of your routes should be fine. There's nothing scary or difficult about them. I have never been to Füssen but did drive to Neuschwanstein from Munich (did not enter - a look from afar was fine for me) and had no problem with the drive. You will get some beautiful scenery along the way.
And Google maps will be fine - in fact, it actually uses GPS (which stands for Global Positioning System). So no worries there.
Have a wonderful trip!
Thanks Mardee for the info!
I am also looking for pre-paid SIM card on my iPhone for our Germany trip. is there any recommendation?
You won't see google street view for a lot of roads in Germany due to the German privacy laws (found this out while working on a Virtual Walking challenge for Berlin and another for the Romantic Road. It is sad because I did another challenge for the Amalfi Coast and the street views were amazing).
One tip about the GPS - we always ask the rental car company to put the GPS into English for us.
My last tip about driving in the mountains from Füssen to Munich is to be prepared for switch backs (depending on the route) if it is a beautiful day, there will be bicycles out riding up and down the mountains. It never fails we go around a curve and bam there is a bicycle. Not that it is a bad thing, it is just something I am not used to living in a flat midwestern state.
In Germany there has been a legal problem with Street View and this is why hardly any is available. But you don't need that to navigate. Google Maps and the navigation option works perfectly in Germany as well.
