Hello, so far on my plans for my april train trip from the netherlands to denmark, we will have a 2:15 hr "layover" at Hamburg station. Can someone recommened a great place for a beer and meal that is pretty close to the station? thanks!
East exit of train station acros the street you will find a restaurant of reliable Hamburg's steak house chain Block House. And also their burger version Jim Block is few houses nearby. Local food you will find at Schifferbörse.
An Italian self-service but cooked for you restaurant from Vapiano you will find west ouside train station.
Take care: Some tricky pickpockets around train station likely.

Take the Kirchenallee exit out of Hamburg Hbf, cross the street to the side of the hotel "Fürst Bismarck," go right to the end of the block. There is a restaurant there, can't remember the exact name, it has the sign "Paulaner." (like the Munich Beer). It's a Bavarian restaurant...nice place offering German cuisine.
A different option to get a taste of what Hamburg is like. Take the S-Bahn no. 1 or no. 3 to "Landungsbrücken". They go every 5 minutes and will take about 6 minutes. You can walk around there and have lunch with a fish bun at Brücke 10.
That restaurant suggested above with the sign "Paulaner" also does take credit cards, if that is important to you.
All the other places accept cards as well.
