Going to other countries from Germany

Hi,

I found a great flight to Berlin in August.
From there I want to go see Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary (Prague), Greece and Turkey. Then go back to Germany for Oktoberfest. My time frame is two months maybe a bit more.

Can anyone recommend a good way to travel around these countries?

Has anyone ever traveled to these countries? If so how did you do it?

Thanks and safe travels.

Depends on what city you are in and where you are going next. Plane, train or bus (or ferry)- it all depends. Have you looked at Rome2rio?

We’ve been to all of these places over various trips and some together on the same trip. With some careful planning you can see the first 4 countries and the cities you mention by train. You’ll need to fly to Greece and Turkey. If you haven’t already booked those August tickets yet you might price a multi city into Berlin out of Istanbul.

My half baked plan right now is to leave Berlin after a couple of days. Make my way down to Turkey then fly to Germany see more of it and go to Oktoberfest in Munich.

We have visited all the countries that you mentioned and loved them all.
First, I lived in Augsburg, Germany for four years and did the Oktoberfest three times. Book your lodging now. If you can't find lodging in Munich, book it in Augsburg and take the train down every day. Don't miss the opening parade with all the beer wagons. Get there early to be able to see it well.

As for choices for which country, you need at least a week to do Poland properly, visiting Gdansk, Warsaw and Krakow as a minimum. You need 3-4 days minimum in Prague and several days in Budapest and Hungary.

Greece to see Athens, Delphi, Corinth and the surrounding area with some islands close to the port you need a week there. If you visit islands, go to Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes and Corfu (if possible Crete). You could spend a week alone in Crete, but you need several days to do the other islands.

Turkey, suggest doing Istanbul. We did it well in five days. Do visit Hagia Sophia the 6th Century Basilica, a portion of the ancient walls were repaired as well. DO the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome. Recommend a hotel close to the Hippodrome. Visit the famous Bazar and Topkapi Palace (Sultan's residence). The Archaeological museum is fantastic. There is more to see but you need five days.

If you stay in Germany, Poland, Czech Rep. and Hungary, you can rent a car to see the countryside like visiting Dresden or take the trains. You don't want a rental car in the city. Look for local day tours to go outside the cities.

From Berlin we took the train to Stargard Poland for two nights, then again to Gdansk for three nights. Then we took the train from Gdansk to Krakow for four nights, then the train to Warsaw for three nights and finally back to Berlin. Flying would have been quicker, but Polish trains were cheap and we wanted to see the countryside. We really enjoyed Poland. Lots to see along with good food and beer.

I flew from Budapest to Prague in April, and that was quick, easy, and cheap.
