gluten free/allergies on RS tour

We just returned from a RS tour of Munich, Salzburg and Vienna. I was a bit concerned about the meals we would be eating as a group as I have a wheat and shellfish allergy. Reading the forums, a few said that no one "went hungry" so I was ready to supplement what I had to, by buying things at a store if necessary (and carrying peanut butter packs).

The pre tour form does ask about food allergies/intolerances which I filled out but they said they could not accommodate all food allergies which I understand.

To my pleasant surprise, I ate very well at the tour dinners, and on our own with some from our group. Our wonderful tour guide called restaurants ahead, and spoke to the chefs at each place where we ate. They were very accommodating and sometimes just altered the meals so it was safe for me. And they were always delicious. I was able to have each course of the meals including dessert. (sorbet) At our apple strudel making class, lunch was served (a beef soup with dumplings); I did not expect to get lunch, but they brought me my own lentil soup. As a bonus, they had me make my own gluten free pastry...I was ecstatic!

So thank you to my Rick Steves tour guide for making me feel safe and a part of the group. It made the tour extra special.

We have always found RSteves tour guides to go the extra mile for all tour members, it’s the reason we keep coming back for more. So glad your experience was the same!

Wow, this is really nice to hear. I'd wondered about dietary restrictions and how they're accommodated on a group trip like this. Once again, the RS team does not disappoint! :)
