Getting to Rostock/Warnemünde from Copenhagen

My wife and I will be traveling from Copenhagen to Warnemünde to board a cruise ship September 14; however information is nearly non-existent on how to make this journey other than by train (7 hrs+). We were hoping to find a more direct route from Copenhagen to Gedser, then the ferry to Rostock/ Warnemünde and do so in less than 7 hours. However, I can't find any information on a train (or a bus) from Copenhagen to Gedser. Is our only option the 7 hr+ train journey?

We were hoping to find a more geographically direct route from Copenhagen to Gedser, then the ferry to Rostock/ Warnemünde (and do so in less than 7 hours). However, I can't find any information on a train (or a bus) from Copenhagen to Gedser. Is our only option the 7 hr+ train journey? If our only option is the train, can anyone provide information on the distance between the Rostock Hbf and the cruise ship port in Warnemünde? What public transportation is available?
PS I’ve posted this question on the Denmark site, but no responses; thus trying a Germany post instead. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Since you will be in Copenhagen, you can tailor the route you take to Rostock. I myself would take the train to Hamburg from Copenhagen. In Hamburg you take the Regional Express train to Rostock. I've done this route r/t. At Rostock Hbf (central station) you can get to Warnemünde by the S-Bahn. The way only involves one change of trains, ie, Hamburg HBf. Hamburg is the junction point for going into Denmark, laterally from NW Germany to the Baltic towns, Schwerin, formerly of Mecklenburg Schwerin, Rostock, etc. No need for Gedser. Distance by S-Bahn from Rostock Hbf to Warnemünde is ca 40 mins.

The DB schedule search does reflect Copenhagen-Warnemunde routes that include the Gedser ferry, but they take 5 connections, leaving Copenhagen at either 6:00 a.m. or noon with a train to Nykoping, then a bus to Gedser Faerge dock. How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Ferry schedules are collected at www.aferry.com.
