Getting to Munich airport

Usually with these types of questions, it is very helpful to say where you are starting from. I'll be honest, I would be starting from a hotel near the airport with that early of a flight.

How many people in your party? Where are you staying in Munich?

Also, is it a direct flight from Munich to the US or a connecting flight in Europe to the direct flight home? Makes a big difference. Second, what times does the check in counter open? Call and find out. Again, huge impact on answer.

We are a party of 4. We will be staying near old Town. The flight I am looking at has a connection in Amsterdam first before going to the US.

If by old town you mean near Marienplattz, You can get an S-Bahn (S8) at 4:12 that will get you to the airport by 4:55, which should be plenty for a 7 am departure to Amsterdam for connection home. You can get a group ticket for 29.10 EUR. Compare that with a taxi.

The S-Bahn runs all night to the airport and the frequency picks up to about every 15 minutes or so starting at 3:30 am

A taxi to the airport is around €100 if I'm not mistaken. While I don't know the exact location of your hotel it sounds like the S-Bahn is the best option.

I'm thinking that maybe it would be better if we stay in a hotel near the airport on our last night. Does anyone have any ideas on where we can stash our suitcases if we stay in old Town for our last day and then go to the hotel near the airport that night?

Your hotel should hold your bags for the afternoon at no charge.

Hotel Gastoff Maisberger. Directly on S1 line to airport at Neufahrn. 10 minute ride to airport. You exit the station at Neufahrn and the hotel is the first thing you see.

We stayed at the Hilton at Munich airport. It was very convenient location to catch an early flight.
We took the S-Bahn from Marienplatz the evening before.
