Are there fast night trains from Paris to Berlin?
Yes there are and they are comfortable and you can get a place to sleep on the train. It's about a 12 hour ride from 9 pm to 9 am. Here is where we get our tickets> www.eurorailways.com/products/night_trains/paris_to_berlin.htm This link will take you to the page for this specific trip on the night train.
Wondering why you want to take a night train? We boarded the train in Berlin at 8.30am and arrived in Pairs at 16.50 approx. 8hrs 20 mins. Had one change of trains.
You will have to change trains in Mannheim, as the Paris-Berlin night train is no longer. I'm a little suspicious of the link provided by the other poster as no date is given for ordering tickets. www.bahn.com isn't showing that train for a random date in April. Use www.bahn.com for research and you can also buy the tickets on that site.
Edit- Article on the last train December 2014. http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/end-of-the-line-parisberlin-night-train-makes-its-final-journey-9923380.html
rateshi,
It looks like the night train on that route is no longer an option. One of the quickest day trains will be a departure from Gare du Nord at 07:58, arriving Berlin Hbf at 16:13 (time 8H:15M, one change at Köln).
The other option you might consider is a budget flight. For example, EasyJet has several flights each day from Paris / ORY to Berlin with a flight time of about 1H:50M. Current prices for dates in May are listed at ~€45.98 PP. If you decide to book a flight, be sure to read the Terms & Conditions carefully, especially related to luggage allowances.
Hi,
As pointed out above, that night train connection between Paris and Berlin is no more. Luckily the night train connection from Berlin still exists for other capitals, Vienna, Budapest. If you still want to do part of Paris-Berlin by night train, aside from the suggestions above, it's still possible.
Take the late afternoon TGV from Paris Est to Strasbourg, then take the local S-Bahn to Offenburg, ca 30 mins. Then take the. CNL night train Offenburg to Berlin. Both legs are direct with mandatory reservations...very doable, only a matter of timing.
Gosh, I would fly. Cheaper, faster.
As air is faster and cheaper DB German Rail stopped the night trains. Your best bet now is the ICE Paris Est to Frankfurt and then the ICE Frankfurt to Berlin... all in all an 8 hours journey (as opposed to a 1 hour flight).
I agree, just fly. Don't waste a day of what is likely limited vacation time to ride the train.
City Night Line trains between Paris and Germany were discontinued in December. Daytime trains take just over 8 hours and one connection from Paris to Berlin; those that connect at Mannheim are easy to book in advance through the German web site; or if you're using a rail pass, then this route is a better choice than one through Belgium on Thalys trains. For budget flights, see www.skyscanner.com.
Thanks everybody for your useful responses. I will look into cheap flyts.
Flights are 92 dollars one way from Berlin to Paris. Just checked. Saving money and time. Beats an even 8 hour train ride. (Checked on Google flights).
